Ava Senior Pictures at Wegerzyn Gardens | Dayton, Ohio Family Photographer
Ava’s senior pictures at Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark might be some of my favorite of the season.
After moving to the Kettering area last June, I was determined to find some locations that I had never photographed in before. I started exploring Centerville, Bellbrook and the surrounding Dayton area adding fun locations to my notes app every time I passed one that looked like a good possibility! I can’t tell you how many texts I have to myself reminding me to check out locations I’ve passed on the way here and there.
Although I know many photographers use Wegerzyn Gardens, I had never visited this park myself, so I was pumped to check it out and once I did I knew I needed to do some sessions there!
When Ava’s mom inquired about photos with me I was so excited because I’ve known Ava since she was born and I have photographed their family many times. We chatted through all the details and decided that with all the flowers, Wegerzyn would be a perfect place to take Ava’s senior portraits!
The evening was so fun because since we have known each other for so long, Ava’s mom and my mom are friends so they both joined us for the shoot and caught up on life while I was just clicking away. They even got some instagram content for me so I guess they are my employees now. (HA!) But truly, I love when my seniors feel comfortable bringing their family or friends along. It can make things lighthearted and fun and it’s always super helpful to have somebody to carry all your things!
Why Wegerzyn Gardens is a perfect spot for senior pictures in Dayton
We made our way down the stone path lined with trees, by the fountain with all the colorful flowers, over to the tall pines and down the stone stairs. There are just so many pretty spots and a million ways to be creative at this location, which is one reason why I think Wegerzyn Gardens is a great location for senior (or family) pictures! Ava’s gallery is so full because I just couldn’t stop taking pictures of her.
My favorite part of the night was when we stepped off into a field and I noticed the way that the sun was glistening through the trees. It gave me some inspo and I had Ava stand looking at me holding the beautiful flowers her mother had brought along and I got some amazing portraits of her with the sun shining in warmly behind her. She ran through the field, laid on a bench all with the flowers in hand and I absolutely love the vibe it was giving.
At the end of the evening we decided to take one last stop at the wild flowers and I’m so glad we did. Ava’s blue and white dress paired so perfectly with the yellow daisies and gave such a whimsical feeling. It was a perfect ending to the night.
Thinking about your own Senior Portrait Session?
Here are a few tips….
What to wear: Pick at least two outfits, but I suggest 3. One casual, one dressier and one that is just fun and makes you feel good!
Best time of day: Golden hour (the hour before sunset) provides beautiful light. It’s when you’ll get that beautiful glow.
Timing your session: Choose whichever season you feel most “you” in. Book your portraits before your senior year so you have your gallery ready for all of your senior festivities! Spring and Fall are very popular so inquire in advance.
If you’ve got a senior (or you ARE the senior reading this ….hi!) I’d love to plan a session that feels just as easy and fun as Ava’s. Reach out here and let’s get you on the calendar.
